Two teenagers, one grenade and a whole lot of trouble. Ashvin Kumar's No Fathers In Kashmir takes us on a heart-wrenching journey as a young British-Kashmiri teenager Noor (Zara Webb) tries to uncover the truth about her missing father.
Noor enlists the help of another teenager Majid (Shivan Raina) to know more about her father’s disappearance. But the more they peel off from their fathers’ past, their future becomes more tumultuous as the teenagers are brought in by the authorities. While the British-born Noor is able to leave, will Majid be left behind forever?
The story of No Fathers In Kashmir is largely focused on Noor and Majid, but veteran actors Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Soni Razdan also play key characters in the film. Writer-director Ashvin Kumar also has a starring role in the film as Arshid whose loyalties are murky.
Anshuman Jha, Natasha Mago and Maya Sarao are also part of the cast. The Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) deemed the film fit for a U/A after it was stuck with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for eight long months.
Like most films set in the troubled region, the film highlights its woes and long-standing issues which have yet to be resolved. It lays bare the gritty reality in Kashmir.
No Fathers In Kashmir, with costume designs by Ashvin’s mother, designer Ritu Kumar, is due to be released on 5 April.
