The makers of the biopic of India’s prime minister Narendra Modi have decided to release the film a week earlier, on 5 April. Titled PM Narendra Modi, the film was earlier slated for release on 12 April.
The earlier release date had caused eyebrows to be raised on social media as the film would have been released just a day after the first phase of polling for the 17th Lok Sabha.
But producer Sandeep Ssingh said they had decided to advance the film's release as excitement for it has peaked after the nine looks of Vivek Oberoi in the role of Modi were released yesterday.
“We are bringing this film a week early on public demand," the producer said in a statement. "There is a lot of love and anticipation among the people and we don’t want them to wait longer. This is a story of 1.3 billion people and I can't wait to show it to them.”
The makers have also released a new poster of the film where Vivek Oberoi is seen with a group of children dressed in the colours of India.
PM Narendra Modi is directed by Omung Kumar who had earlier helmed biopics like Mary Kom (2014) and Sarbjit (2016). The film is being co-produced by Vivek’s father and veteran actor Suresh Oberoi.
The film stars Barkha Bisht Sengupta as Modi’s wife Jashodhaben, Boman Irani as industrialist Ratan Tata and Manoj Joshi as BJP chief Amit Shah.
