Bengali actresses Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan have been nominated as the candidates to contest the Lok Sabha elections for Trinamool Congress party from Jadavpur and Basirhat constituencies, respectively. Both the actresses are reportedly planning to campaign together.
Social media platforms have been flooded with trolls and memes ever since the announcement has been made. A lot of people are of the opinion that the actresses are naïve in terms of their political awareness and they will hardly be able to take their responsibilities. However, Chakraborty seems to be quite confident in her new avatar and is sure that she will win.
In an interview with Ananda Bazar Patrika, Chakraborty said, “I am happy that I am getting the opportunity to serve people. I recently met the members of the Parliament and I am quite excited.”
The actress emphasized upon the fact that she is primarily an actress and because of her career graph and abilities she has got the opportunity. “This is a new world. There will be many challenges and everyone knows that I love to take challenges,” added the actress.
Talking about the trolls and memes on social media, Chakraborty commented, “They are making memes out of the stills from my films only. Cinema is my profession, my bread and butter. People who have a lot time are making those memes. It’s good because they are helping in my promotions.”
Chakraborty also believes that she believes in unconditional love and if she can stand with the common people with love, she will get the same in return. “I am quite sure of my beliefs. I am a workaholic. I will work according to the instructions from the party and also, I am not the first actress to join politics,” stated Chakraborty.
Chakrabory is also awaiting the release of her upcoming film Mon Jane Na by Shagufta Rafique, starring alongside Yash Dasgupta on 22 March. The actress has also made her debut as a playback singer with the film.
