A biopic on Noble laureate Mother Teresa has been officially announced. Titled Mother Teresa: The Saint, the film will mark the directorial debut of Seema Upadhyay.
Produced by Pradeep Sharma, Nitin Manmohan, Girish Johar and Prachi Manmohan, the film will go on floors at the end of this year and will be released in 2020. While the casting of the film is yet to begin, an official statement from the makers says that the film will feature an actor from India and Hollywood.
The research for the film is on in full swing currently. Speaking about their recent visit to Kolkata, Upadhyay said in an official statement, “We visited the charity of missionaries in Kolkata and the experience was surreal. Mother Prema prayed Hail Mary and seeked divine guidance for the film. They also blessed the whole team for their protection, completion and success of the film with the firm belief that it will bring peace and light to everyone associated with this film.”
The producers have assured that the film will meet international standards.
They said in a joint statement, “We are extremely delighted and happy to produce the official biopic on Mother Teresa, the great saint, who is known to the entire world for her nobility and charity. She is a global icon and we will ensure to leave no stone unturned to meet her international stature and pay our tribute to the noble soul. We hope we will do justice and will be able to spread the message for peace, love and humanity that Mother Teresa stood for.”
The makers have released a poster of the film. It shows Mother Teresa’s hands in a namaste.
