The trailer of Srijit Mukherji’s upcoming thriller Vinci Da looks puzzling and intriguing at the same time. The director of Baishe Srabon (2011) and Chotushkone (2014) seems to be on his feet to send chill down the spine of the audience with the film, co-written by lead cast member Rudranil Ghosh.
The trailer begins with Ghosh saying that the great Leonardo Da Vinci was the first to establish that art is science and science is art. People tease him by calling Vinci Da and he announces that the film is his own story.
Vinci Da is an obsessed make-up artiste, who is struggling to make his own mark with his capabilities not through any shortcut in the film industry. His straight-forward and uncompromising nature often gets him blacklisted.
Nonetheless, he keeps doing experiments on his love interest, played by Sohini Sarkar, who trusts him and assures him that there is no hurry for their marriage as nobody else will get married to her because she stammers while speaking.
Then enters Ritwick Chakraborty - the other protagonist of the film. Vinci Da is equally Adi Bose’s (Chakraborty) story, who declares himself as a serial killer. He also states that apparently he is mentally sick and he chooses his victims following a certain pattern.
He ropes in Vinci Da with the proposal to take help of his prosthetic make-up. The latter complies, without contemplating much about the trap he is putting his foot in. Some alarming incidents follow and Vinci utters in frustration that he cannot kill anymore; while Adi on the other hand considers him to be his partner in crime.
Amidst all these horrific incidents comes up the concept of sacrifice, which Adi considers to be necessary for justice. As he continues with his escapades, a police officer played by Anirban Bhattacharya probes into the cases.
The ending scene of the trailer can definitely have the audience freeze in terror as it features Riddhi Sen killing someone with a bat in an absolute cool state of mind and then informing the police about the murder, while a lady breaks down in horror in the background.
The trailer is undoubtedly composed smartly with chosen dialogues and selected snippets from the film with apt editing that hides more than it reveals. It creates a mystery about Adi Bose and Chakraborty appears cold-blooded and shines in a never before seen avatar.
The film also marks the debut of Nobel, a contestant of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. In the trailer, he has lent his voice to a composition by Anupam Roy.
Vinci Da is slated for release on 12 April.
