The South Indian Film Artistes Association aka Nadigar Sangam will hold polls on 23 June to elect office bearers for the period of 2019-2022, read a statement from the Sangam.

In order to carry out polling smoothly, Nadigar Sangam has requested the Producers' Union, Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI), Film Chamber of Commerce, and Television Artistes Association to declare a holiday on Sunday, 23 June. This means there will be no shooting and any film-related activities.

The elections, to be presided by retired justice E Padmanabhan, are to take place in Chennai at Sathya Studios (Dr MGR Janaki Arts and Science College) between 7 am and 5 pm.

Members of the association will be voting for the offices of president, vice president, general secretary, treasurer, and the executive committee.

The current managing committee includes actor-filmmaker Nassar as president, actor Ponvannan as vice president, actor-politician Karunas as vice president, actor Vishal as general secretary and actor Karthi as treasurer.

The list of new contestants is yet to be officially declared. However, names like actors Simbu, Udhaya, RK Suresh, actor-producer Isari K Ganesh, are doing the rounds.

There are rumours that Vishal and the rest of the committe might not contest this time after facing severe backlash during their term on multiple occasions.
