Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are all set to roll out the sequel to their 2012 hit Rowdy Rathore. The news was shared by the film’s co-producer Shabinaa Khan during a conversation with the tabloid Mumbai Mirror.
Speaking to the publication, Khan said, “We are in the process of writing Rowdy Rathore 2 right now and it will feature Akshay in the lead.”
Describing the qualities of Akshay Kumar, Khan added, “Right from Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) to Pad Man (2018), his films have ample humour. He can manage anything and everything and is one of the few all-rounders we have in the industry today.”
Rowdy Rathore was directed by Prabhudeva. The film was the official Hindi remake of the Telugu hit Vikramarkudu (2006), which was directed by Baahubali fame SS Rajamouli and which starred Baahubali actress Anushka Shetty and Ravi Teja.
There is no confirmation yet on the director of Rowdy Rathore 2 or the rest of the cast. The first film also starred Sonakshi Sinha and Supreeth Reddy.
Last year Akshay Kumar had held a joint press conference with Bhansali announcing the decision to postpone the release of Pad Man (2018) as he didn’t want a clash with the latter’s troubled Padmaavat (2018). At the interaction, Akshay Kumar joked that Bhansali would be making Rowdy Rathore 2 as a return gift.
Now it seems that wasn’t a joke after all.
