The trailer of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Kabir Singh (2019) has an aggressive lead character as Shahid Kapoor plays Kabir as a psychopathic lover who is hurt and devastated after his love life with Preeti (Kiara Advani) goes sour.
The song ‘Mere Sohneya' is contrary to the character of Kabir, showing off a more mellow and caring side. It’s a slow, soothing romantic number which is ideal for a rainy afternoon with the monsoons just around the corner.
Lyricist Irshad Kamil has come up with Punjabi poetry this time. His words are simple and innocent and at the same time deeply moving.
Sachet Tandon's vocals are in full range while Parampara Thakur’s voice is subdued, which goes with the characters of Kabir (Kapoor) and Preeti (Advani). Sachet-Parampara have also composed the music and kept the score simple.
In the song's picturisation, Kabir is more dominating in the relationship and Preeti doesn't mind. But we wonder what was the need for him to cover her with his jacket when she was already attired? Nevertheless, Shahid and Kiara's casting looks perfect. They are believable as a couple.
Kabir Singh is the official Hindi remake of Vanga’s own Telugu hit Arjun Reddy (2017), which starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey. The film will be releasing on 21 June.
