Kangana Ranaut's Mental Hai Kya is now renamed Judgemental Hai Kya

The Kangana Ranaut-starrer Mental Hai Kya will now be renamed Judgemental Hai Kya.

The film, which also stars Rajkummar Rao, will be released on 26 July following this title change.

The actress confirmed the change in title following a meeting with members of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

A spokesperson for the film's producer Balaji Telefilms said in a statement, "Given the sensitivity attached to the issue of mental health and our intention of not offending or hurting anyone’s sentiments, the makers have decided to change the title of the film Mental Hai Kya to Judgementall Hai Kya. Both Kangana and Rajkummar have outdone themselves in this thriller and we can’t wait for audiences to witness it on the big screen. CBFC has cleared the film with 'U/A' certification with minor changes, which the makers are happy to comply with."

In April, the Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS) had objected to the title of Prakash Kovelamudi's film, stating that it would 'depict mental illnesses in poor light'. This was followed by other objections on the same lines by the Indian Medical Association.

The makers of the film had defended the title then, saying, "They have felt that the title of the movie is discriminating against people who are battling mental issues. On the contrary, the makers of the film believe that their movie, Mental Hai Kya, will encourage people to embrace their individuality and distinctiveness."

Judgemental Hai Kya was earlier scheduled to be released on 29 March, before it was pushed to 21 June, and will finally open in theatres on 26 July.

The film was initially set to clash with the Hrithik Roshan-starrer, Super 30. But the biopic, based on the life of mathematician and tutor Anand Kumar from Bihar, has been shifted to 12 July.
