Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor to lead Dostana sequel

Dharma Productions launches yet another franchise, as they officially announce Dostana 2 starring  Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor and a new male lead, yet to be announced. The sequel to the hit 2008 film, starring Priyanka Chopra, Abhishek Bachchan, and John Abraham, will be helmed by first-time filmmaker Collin D’Cunha.

Yesterday, the studio teased an announcement about the film, stating, “You know the beat, you know what follows”. Today, Dharma Productions head Karan Johar made it official as the two of the three leads were announced in a brief video.

The first film, Dostana (2008), directed by Tarun Mansukhani, followed Sam (Bachchan) and Kunal (John) who try to romance their roommate Neha, while pretending they are a gay couple so they can rent rooms in her flat.

The sequel is written by Navjot Gulati, Sumit Aroraa, Rishabh Sharma and D’Cunha. The latter, who will be making his directorial debut, has assisted Rajkumar Hirani on Sanju (2018) and Advait Chandan on Secret Superstar (2017).

Earlier this month, Aaryan was seen hanging out with Johar at his Bandra home, likely in negotiations for the role. He is currently filming an untitled love story with Sara Ali Khan for director Imtiaz Ali.

Kapoor, who made her debut with the Dharma film, Dhadak (2018), returns to the banner for yet another production. She also has the horror comedy RoohiAfza (2020) with Rajkummar Rao and will be seen in the historical drama directed by Johar, Takht (2020).

It is likely that the fresh face for the film will be announced soon.
