A biography of 'Bad Man' Gulshan Grover will be published in July

Actor and frequent villain Gulshan Grover is popularly known as 'Bad Man' in Hindi cinema after his role in Subhash Ghai's Ram Lakhan (1989). That moniker has become the title of his book, Bad Man, written by senior journalist Roshmila Bhattacharya. The authorized biography is being published by Penguin Random House India next month.

The upcoming book will track Grover's journey in cinema, both in India and abroad, and take readers through his failures and successes. "I have been a part of many stories across regions and languages, but this is a completely new experience for me. Having my story told in a book is exciting and yet unnerving," the actor said in a statement.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who has directed Grover in several films, said, "The ability to deconstruct and reinvent one’s persona is the lifeblood of all successful durable entertainers all through history. The reason Gulshan Grover has been able to survive in this novelty-seeking business, where the audience is continuously asking for a new, fresh experience, is because he manages to do just that. Gulshan is a shape-shifter."

Swati Chopra, senior commissioning editor of Penguin Random House India, added, "Gulshan Grover’s ability to immerse himself into a role, often villainous, is legendary. Through his biography, we get a rare insight into the mind and world of the ‘bad man’ of Bollywood. We are delighted to be publishing it."

Grover will next be seen in Rohit Shetty's Sooryavanshi (2020), where he once again plays the antagonist, this time opposite Akshay Kumar.
