Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Kabir Singh (2019) has succeeded in reaching Rs100 crore in just five days of its release. Starring Shahid Kapoor in the lead, the film earned Rs16.50 crore yesterday, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. This takes its overall total to Rs104.25 crore.
After an excellent weekend, Kabir Singh passed the Monday test with flying colours by making Rs17 crore in the day. This was the 13th highest number ever scored by any film on Monday. The film also achieved the feat of scoring the highest Sunday score this year with Rs27.75 crore beating Salman Khan-starrer Bharat which had made Rs25.54 crore on its first Sunday.
This year, the numbers of all big films like Total Dhamaal, Gully Boy and Bharat have seen a major drop on its first Wednesday. So, it will be interesting to see if the same happens with Kabir Singh or it continues its dream run.
As per trade sources, the film, which also stars Kiara Advani, is made at a budget of around Rs60 crore. With the film already crossing the three figure mark in just five days, it is all set to become the success story of the year.
A section of the audience has been against the film for alleged glorification of toxic masculinity and misogyny. But that seems to be having no effect on its box office numbers. Needless to say, this is by far the biggest solo hit given by Kapoor.
