Sanjay Dutt began shooting for the upcoming film, Bhuj: The Pride Of India (2020), yesterday, 24 June. The film went on the floors at the famous Ramoji Filmcity studios in Hyderabad.

The multistarrer film also features Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha, Parineeti Chopra, Rana Daggubati and Ammy Virk, among others.

The film is set against the background of the 1971 war between India and Pakistan and focuses on the story of 300 women who rebuilt a destroyed airstrip in one night in Madhapur, Gujarat, to help the Indian Air Force.

Sinha plays the leader of the determined group of women, Sunderben Jetha Madharparya, a social worker and farmer. While Sanjay Dutt is believed to be playing the character of Ranchordas Svabhai Ravari, a pagi (one who deduces the gender, height, weight, of a person based on their footprints) who helped predict the attack.

During the promotions of her last film Kalank (2019), Sinha had spoken about the film and her character. “I think that character in itself is very strong. They made the entire runaway in one night for planes to land. This is one lady who got 300 women together and convinced them to build the runway while there was bombing going on,” she had said.

The film will be the directorial debut for its writer-director Abhishek Dudhaiya. Before this, he had directed a few episodes of the Hindi television serial Ehsaas in 2003.

Produced by T-series and Select Media Holdings LLP, Bhuj: The Pride Of India will be released on 14 August 2020.
