Kunal Kapoor plays a drama teacher in Vandana Kataria's directorial debut Noblemen (2019), but the actor has been working behind the scenes to get his own project out. At a recent interaction with Cinestaan.com, Kapoor confirmed that he is pursuing writing and will soon direct a short film.
Kapoor said, "Writing, I have always been doing for a long time. When I was assistant director, I had a notebook filled with stories that I wanted to direct one day."
That desire is set to be fulfilled soon. While he refused to divulge details, the Rang De Basanti (2006) actor said, "I am working on a film which I am writing, which I want to produce. I am working on a short film which I will direct. I am also acting. So right now, I have my hands full."
The actor, who began his career as an assistant to filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra on Aks: The Reflection (2001), said, "I started off as an assistant director. So, the bug has always been there. The short film I have been wanting to make, I have wanted to make for a while... I am, right now, working on three scripts, one of which I am producing. These are the ones I really want to do. If you don't find the work your heart is in, it is better to step back."
Kapoor will be seen alongside Ali Haji in Noblemen (2018). The film, revolving around the serious issue of bullying in school, is set to release on 28 June.
