The Punjabi movie Shadaa (2019), starring Diljit Dosanjh, which released on Friday, has earned phenomenal numbers in its first weekend. Directed by Jagdeep Sidhu, it has recorded an amount of Rs9.25 crore in its first weekend, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.
The film registered the highest opening ever for a Punjabi film with Rs2.60 crore. The previous highest with Rs2.36 crore was Carry On Jatta 2 (2018) which also starred Dosanjh in the lead.
Shadaa then became just the second film to cross the Rs3 crore mark as it made Rs3.05 crore on Saturday. The first film to do that was also Carry On Jatta 2 (2018), though it reached that number on a Sunday, rather than a Saturday.
Also starring Neeru Bajwa, the rom-com recorded a bigger jump on Sunday by amassing Rs3.60 crore. This has taken its grand total to Rs9.25 crore in the weekend. This is also another record for the film as it beat the previous highest weekend number of Rs8.30 crore recorded by Carry On Jatta 2.
The highest grossing Punjabi film this year has been Muklawa (2019) starring Ammy Virk and Sonam Bajwa. It earned Rs12 crore in its run. Shadaa looks all set to beat that record in the weekdays itself.
What we should also remember is that Shadaa collected such high numbers despite the Hindi film Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, also earning well at the box office this weekend.
