Sex is never the most comfortable topic of conversation in India, but Hindi cinema seems to be keen on changing that. After Shoojit Sircar's Vicky Donor (2012) and RS Prasanna's Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017), Khandani Shafakhana (2019) is the third movie to open up this can of worms.
The film, directed by Shilpi Dasgupta, features Sonakshi Sinha, Annu Kapoor and Varun Sharma in key roles.
The trailer for the film begins with Annu Kapoor's character revealing that Mamaji (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) has left his famous store for sexual medicine to Baby Bedi (Sonakshi Sinha). Despite her chagrin, and the need to sell the real estate for good money, the will demands that she run the store for six months at least. The result is a mix of embarrassing meetings and goof-ups that make for a funny trailer.
Varun Sharma makes his now-familiar appearance as the class clown, playing Baby Bedi's elder brother who wants to inherit the medical store. Priyansh Jora is a keen young man who helps out Sinha's Bedi, while Annu Kapoor adds to the cast in the now familiar guide/lawyer role. The actor was also a key part of the Vicky Donor's plot.
The surprise element though is Badshah, who plays a famous singer/celebrity. The rapper is the ace in the pack who helps to spread the name of the store after being roped in by Sonakshi Sinha's Baby. The moments of his interaction with Sinha seem to be spontaneous fun, which makes us wonder if the rapper might be an actor in the making.
The trailer has elements of fun, with that snarky sense of humour. Sinha is quite adept at playing the Punjabi loudmouth and seems to be in her element. It remains to be seen how it translates into the film.
Khandani Shifakhana is set to be released in theatres on 26 July. Watch the trailer below and let us know how keen you are to watch this film.
