Vijay-Atlee film Thalapathy 63 is officially titled Bigil. See first-look poster

Directed by Atlee, Bigil marks the third collaboration of the director with Vijay after Theri (2016) and Mersal (2017), both of which were blockbusters.

Thalapathy 63, the third film of the combination of director Atlee and actor Vijay, has been officially titled Bigil. The film's makers unveiled the first look poster on the eve of Vijay’s birthday on Friday.

The poster, which is set against a North Madras backdrop, features Vijay in dual roles as father and son. While the father Vijay plays a local rowdy, the son essays the role of a football coach.

Directed by Atlee, Bigil marks the third collaboration of the director with Vijay after Theri (2016) and Mersal (2017), both of which were blockbusters. Nayanthara plays the leading lady in Bigil.

Tipped to be a sports-based thriller, the film features Vijay as the coach of a women’s football team. He underwent special training to fit into the shoes of the character which he is playing for the first time.

Recently, the makers spent a whopping Rs6 crore to erect a football stadium set to shoot a crucial portion of the film, which has already been confirmed to hit the screens during Deepavali this year.

Produced by AGS Entertainment, the film also stars Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Yogi Babu and Vivek. Daniel Balaji, usually seen playing negative roles, has also been roped in for a crucial part.

The film has music by AR Rahman. Recently, he confirmed in an interview that the then-untitled film would be sports-based.

“I have done this genre in Hollywood, but this would be the first time in South India," Rahman said. "Atlee is a fan of my films like Lagaan (2001) and Pele (2016). He has heard these soundtracks and he is musically very passionate. I enjoy working with such a director who gets involved in music composing.”
