So far the various teasers released from director Upendra Sidhaye’s Marathi movie Girlfriend showed its protagonist Nachiket (Amey Wagh) lonely without a girlfriend. The first song released from the film titled ‘Nachya Got A Girlfriend’ presents a complete turnaround.
As the song reveals, he finally has a girlfriend. We are told that his girlfriend is Alisha Nerulkar, but she isn’t shown in the groovy number. She is the character played by Sai Tamhankar, who also featured in one of the earlier teasers.
After the earth-shattering announcement, the introvert and geek Nachiket aka Nachya becomes cool, outgoing and energetic. He dances with his parents, goes to discos and shakes a leg with a beautiful girl played by actress Rasika Sunil in his office.
The song has some hilarious moments with news anchors giving out ‘breaking news’ about Nachya finally finding a girl, and Nachiket going on a chat show spoofing filmmaker Karan Johar’s popular show, Koffee With Karan. But what takes the cake is a political banner announcing his development with a picture of the US President Donald Trump who is nicknamed ‘Trump Tatya.’
Kshitij Patwardhan has been a successful script writer. He turns lyricist here and succeeds in giving witty lyrics. Singer Jasraj Joshi shows the right energy for Amey Wagh, while the composition of the trio Hrishikesh-Saurabh-Jasraj is foot-tapping.
Girlfriend, produced by Anish Joag and Ranjit Gugle, is all set to release on 26 July.
