The teaser of designer-turned-filmmaker Vikram Phadnis’s Marathi movie Smile Please (2019) succeeded in keeping us wondering as to whether the film is a light-hearted emotional drama or a psychological mystery.

The first song from the film ‘Shwaas De’ is a fun voyage number where Mukta Barve and Lalit Prabhakar’s characters go around the tour of the city of Mumbai to click pictures of different parts. It seems Barve is the photographer while Prabhakar, her assistant and guide. Their fun antics tell us that they are also close friends.

The visuals are impressive as different locations like the Gateway Of India, Sasoon Dock, Banganga, etc get clicked and explored. Anyone who knows the city well is expected to relate with it.

The song also points to a story development. It seems Barve’s character has a daughter, who doesn’t approve of Prabhakar. Later, Barve has some sort of a fallout with Prabhakar. She also runs away from him at a photo exhibition.

‘Shwaas De’ is a carefree number which perfectly suits the city tour adventure of both the characters. Young composer duo Rohan - Rohan’s music isn’t extravagant in any way. They have used a mix of different instruments while keeping things simple. Rohan Pradhan, one half of the duo, has freely sung the song, which has lyrics from Manndar Cholkar.

Smile Please is Phadnis’s second Marathi directorial after Hrudayantar (2017), which also starred Barve along with Subodh Bhave. The film will be released on 19 July.
