The teaser for the upcoming Amala Paul thriller Aadai (2019) was unveiled by Karan Johar on Tuesday 18 June. Going by the first impression of the visuals, the film promises to break the shackles of status quo.
Releasing the teaser on Twitter, Johar tweeted: “Freedom is what you do with what’s been done to you. Presenting Aadai, a Tamil film that breaks the shackles of the status quo. Starring the bold, beautiful & badass Amala Paul.”

Tipped to be a crime thriller and directed by Rathna Kumar, the teaser opens with a worried mother filing a complaint about her missing daughter. She then goes on to reveal that her daughter was drunk the last time they spoke.
Cut to next shot, we see cops and media professionals surround a high-rise building. Following some shots through the abandoned building, we see Amala Paul’s character appear naked and confused.
Since its release, the teaser has received a phenomenal response and people have raved about it for being relevant and gutsy. From reliable sources, it has been understood that Amala plays a rape victim and the story is about her fight for justice.
In several of her recent interviews, Amala has emphasized on the impact Aadai will create in her career and in Tamil cinema as well.
The film also stars Bijili Ramesh, Vivek Prasanna and Sarithran in pivotal roles. Viji Subramaniyam of V Studios has produced the film and the music has been composed by singer-composer Pradeep Kumar.
