Shruti Haasan to play an assassin in American TV series based on Jason Bourne

Shruti Haasan joins the growing list of Indian artistes on American television. The actress has signed on to play an assassin in the USA Network-produced series, Treadstone. The upcoming series is a spin-off on the popular Jason Bourne series by Robert Ludlum. 

The actress is the latest in a line of Indian talent from Priyanka Chopra and Vir Das to make an appearance on American television. Created by Tim Kring and Ben Smith, the series features a cast of Michelle Forbes, Patrick Fugit and Michael Gaston, among others. 

Written by Kring, the creator of the television show Heroes, the series will explore the origin of the organization, Treadstone, a CIA black-ops programme to turn new recruits into cold-blooded assassins. The first season of the series will follow these sleeper agents across the globe as they set out on their missions.

According to Deadline.com, Haasan will play Nira Patel, whose waitressing job is a cover for her deadly skills.

The pilot episode is to be directed by Ramin Bahraini, who will also be the executive producer of the series along with Kring, Smith, Jeffrey Weiner, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and Justin Levy.

The series is currently in production in Budapest, Hungary.
