Kriti Sanon has been signed as the lead in director Rahul Dholakia’s next, as per a report in the tabloid, Mumbai Mirror. The yet-untitled film is a thriller inspired from real-life incidents and will be set in Mumbai.
This is Dholakia’s next after the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees (2017) and it will be produced by Sunil Kheterpal.
Sanon told Mumbai Mirror that she was eager to do a female-centric film.
“I have been waiting for the right female-driven thriller to come my way and this film ticked all the boxes and has all the elements of a commercial film. It's an entertainer that has a powerful core idea and will connect with the audiences without being preachy about the subject,” she said.
The actress also told the news agency, Press Trust of India (PTI) that she is playing a media professional in the film and has already started researching for her character.
The film is written by author-turned-screenwriter Bilal Siddiqui, whose book, Bard Of Blood, has been adapted for the upcoming Netflix series, produced by Shah Rukh Khan. The Mumbai Mirror report also mentions that the film is visual effects (VFX) heavy and makers have got on board top VFX professionals from South Korea.
“This idea was pitched while it was being developed and we realised that there is an exciting thriller format that this story lends itself to. It’s a cracker of a script and Kriti is the ideal choice for the protagonist,” said Dholakia who is also the co-producer of the film.
The film will begin shooting in August and will release in the first half of 2020.
