The Regina International Film Festival and Awards (RIFFA) in Canada will have four Indians on the jury this year. They are filmmaker Ashvin Kumar of No Fathers In Kashmir (2019) fame, top-ranking film editor A Sreekar Prasad, and actresses Mallika Sherawat and Pooja Batra.
The news was shared by the festival organizers in an official statement.
Ashvin Kumar is known for his films on the troubled situation in Jammu & Kashmir. His short film Little Terrorist (2004) was nominated for the Oscars. The film also made him the first Indian to be nominated at the European Film Academy.
His latest feature film, No Fathers In Kashmir (2019), was released earlier this year to positive reviews.
Sreekar Prasad is an eight-time National award-winning editor who has worked in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi cinema. He has more than 200 films to his credit and is also the editor of Baahubali star Prabhas's keenly awaited film Saaho (2019).
Sherawat is a Hindi film actress who rose to fame with Murder (2004) opposite Emraan Hashmi. She also acted in the successful romantic comedy Pyaar Ke Side Effects (2007). She is a regular at international film festivals and film events.
Model-turned-actress Pooja Batra was a known name in Hindi and Southern cinema from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s. She has some hit films like Virasat (1997), Chandralekha (1997, Malayalam), Haseena Maan Jayegi (1999) and Nayak: The Real Hero (2001) to her credit.
The RIFFA will take place this year from 13–17 August.at Regina in the Saskatchewan province of Canada.
