Udit Narayan remains one of the most popular Hindi film playback singers. His voice triggers a nostalgia rush in those who grew up in the 1990s because Hindi film songs in those days felt incomplete without Udit Narayan's voice.
Much to the joy of lovers of yesteryear film music, Udit Narayan returns in Super 30, lending his voice to the song ‘Jugraafiya’.
It’s a romantic track featuring Hrithik Roshan as Anand Kumar and Mrinal Thakur as his lady love. Anand Kumar is at a younger stage of his life, which must have been in the 1990s. This was perhaps why Udit Narayan was roped in for the song. The makers of Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) did the same thing as that film was set in the 1990s.
Be that as it may, it is refreshing to hear Udit Narayan's voice after a long time. Apart from being pleasing, his voice, like the voices of other singers of that era, has a distinct quality.
And let’s not forget Shreya Ghoshal. She is impressive too, especially in the part where she sings solo and at quite a rapid pace.
Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics are simple and innocent and evoke the 'good old days'. Star music composer duo Ajay-Atul’s tune is happy and uplifting.
Thakur fits the character of an innocent village girl. For Hrithik, however, it is a struggle to look at least half his biological age. His forced expressions in some of the scenes don’t help.
Super 30, directed by Vikas Bahl, is scheduled to be released on 12 July. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch this film.
