Hindi films Andhadhun (2018), Gully Boy (2019), Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019) and Tamil film Super Deluxe (2019) are headed to South Korea. The Indian films will screen in the 23rd edition of the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in the World Fantastic Blue section.
To contrast with World Fantastic Red section, which sees more films from the horror genre, the World Fantastic Blue section presents films with a more cerebral and emotional experience. The four selected Indian films certainly represent that.
Sriram Raghavan's Andhadhun (2018) features Ayushmann Khurrana as a blind piano player who unwittingly witnesses a murder. This year's releases, Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy and Thiagarajan Kumararaja's Super Deluxe have already received rave reviews, and the historical Manikarnika, directed by Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi and lead actress Kangana Ranaut is a dramatic retelling of the brave Rani of Jhansi.
All four films will be making their Korean premieres. The Gasoline Thieves, set in Mexico, will open the festival while Korean film The 12th Suspect will have its world premiere and close the festival.
The Korean festival will be held from 27 June to 7 July.
