Vijay Varma picks up his first international project in Mira Nair's A Suitable Boy adaptation

After Gully Boy (2019), Vijay Varma has bagged his first major international project in Mira Nair's A Suitable Boy.

The series adaptation of Vikram Seth's novel is set to go on the floors in September. Helmed by Mira Nair for BBC World. the series will track around the story of the Mehra family trying to arrange the wedding of their youngest daughter. 

Varma has been roped in to play the role of Rasheed, a student at the fictional Brahmpur University, in the novel. 

In a statement, Varma said, "I am elated to be part of a Mira Nair project. I've been the biggest admirer of her work and cannot wait to make this illustrious story come alive. During the process of screen tests, I read a few parts but it was the character of Rasheed that really attracted me as an actor. I was drawn to it. I'm glad that this project came my way and I'm looking forward to be working with a stellar team." 

In an earlier interview to FilmCompanion, director Mira Nair had stated that Randeep Hooda, Shefali Shah and Tabu will also be part of the project. Hooda will play Billy Nair, while Shah will play Roopa Mehra. The series will also have Vijay Raaz, Vivaan Shah and Vivek Gomber, according to Nair. 

The story of A Suitable Boy revolves around four families in post-partition India, and is divided into 19 parts. It is considered one of the longest novels in English, published in a single volume.
