Sonakshi Sinha’s next slice-of-life film finally has a title, Khandaani Shafakhana and will be released on 26 July. This means that it will clash with the Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao-starrer Mental Hai Kya.

Khandaani Shafakhana also stars Varun Sharma (Choocha from Fukrey franchise), Annu Kapoor and will mark the acting debut of singer-rapper Badshah. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, Mrighdeep Singh Lamba (director of Fukrey series) and Mahaveer Jain.

The film is the directorial debut of Shilpi Dasgupta. She has been an assistant in films like Silence Please... The Dressing Room (2004) and Subhash Ghai’s Black & White (2008) and Yuvvraaj (2008).

Dasgupta also wrote Ek Din... Achanak (2011), the TV movie Fan Club (2011), along with the dialogues for a couple of episodes of the popular TV series CID.

Earlier this year, producer Bhushan Kumar had shared the reason for casting Badshah. “When I read the script and the character sketch, the only person who came to my mind was Badshah. Just like his screen persona, he is a jovial and funny Punjabi guy. It took a while to persuade him to take up the role, but I am glad he finally came on board,” he told the tabloid Mumbai Mirror
