Shantanu Moghe plays Swami Ramdas in biopic: See poster


The actor is known for his role as Shivaji in the television serial Swarajya Rakshak Sambhaji, which is currently on air.

A biopic on the 17th century saint-poet Swami Ramdas is set to be released in Marathi. Titled Shri Ram Samartha, the film will see actor Shantanu Moghe essay the titular role. The film also stars veteran actress Alka Kubal.

Directed by Santosh Todankar, the film is produced under the banners of Disha Deepa Films and Vipra Entertainment.

Samarth Ramdas was a renowned saint-poet from Maharashtra who is best known for writing the text Dasbodh, besides several other works. Born Narayan Suryaji Thosar in 1608, Swami Ramdas was an ardent devotee of Rama and Hanuman. He passed away in 1681 at the age of 73.

The poster of the film was launched recently in Nashik and mainly features Moghe in the titular role in saffron robes bearing a calm expression. The actor is also known for his role as Shivaji in the television serial Swarajya Rakshak Sambhaji which is currently on air.

In an official statement, the makers said, “This film, beyond being just a biopic of Ramdas Swami, is a witty commentary on the contemporary status of our society. The historical incidents depicted in the film speak clearly about good governance and leadership.”
