Gotro song 'Neel Digante': Leads lack chemistry in this Rabindranath Tagore fusion

Gotro is slated to be released in August.

'Neel Digante' song from Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s upcoming film Gotro is a fusion of Raindranath Tagore’s song by Anindya Chattopadhyay. The composer has added energy to the song, by playing with its rhythm and also, infusing different genres of instrument arrangement in it. Shreya Ghosal has lifted the mood with her seamless modulation and soulful rendition.

The song features Manali Manisha Dey, Nigel Akkara and Anushua Majumdar, who play the protagonists in the film. Dey’s character appears to be smitten by Akkara. In love, she has no sense of her surroundings. She hardly feels like engaging in her work. While dancing with Majumdar in high spirits, she catches Akkara stealing glances at her moves.

On the day of Holi, she smears his face with colours only to get drenched in a tub of colour, thrown on her by Akkara. There has been an attempt to recreate the classic sequence of song 'Ei Poth Jodi Na Sesh Hoy', by super imposing a graphic visual of Dey riding a bike with Akkara behind on some footages of the city of Kolkata.

While Dey’s happiness knows no bounds when Akkara helps her with plucking flowers from the tree, the latter shatters all her dreams by dumping her the next moment.

The sequences are followed by a dance performance by Dey with Akkara as a spectator.

The visuals do not really synchronise as there is hardly any chemistry between Dey and Akkara in the song. While Dey seems bursting with energy, Akkara’s reactions are almost cold. All of Dey’s persuading tactics seems to have no effect on him, whatsoever.

Gotro is slated to be released in August.
