The Mars Orbiter mission or Mangalyaan is one of India's greatest space age achievements. Director Jagan Shakti is set to bring that event back in the focus with his next film, Mission Mangal (2019). Featuring Vidya Balan, Akshay Kumar, Kirti Kulhari, Taapsee Pannu and Nithya Menen, the film showcases the people behind the mission, and their ordinary lives that coincided with this extraordinary mission.
The teaser does not hold back anything, as it sets off from the point that is at the centre of the film - the Mangalyaan mission. Akshay Kumar, as Rakesh Dhawan, takes command the scene shifts to the people working behind the curtain. The teaser soon shifts to introduce the rest of the cast.
From Vidya Balan's Tara Shinde, Taapsee Pannu's Kritka Agarwal, Sonakshi Sinha's Eka Gandhi, Kirti Kulhari's Neha Siddiqui and Nithya Menen's Varsha Gowda, it is the women that are the backbone of this mission. The teaser offers a glimpse into the lives behind their iconic achievement, taking care of their home, pursuing their career, and alternating between these two lives.
Sharman Joshi and HR Dattatrey are the two other men making an appearance in the teaser. Joshi plays Parmeshwar Naidu, while Dattatrey is tasked in the role of Ananth Iyer. The clip of Iyer making dosa, while being at the forefront of the mission is an interesting sight.
The Mars mission began under the term of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman G Madhavan Nair in 2008, before finally lifting off under the new ISRO chairman, K Radhakrishnan in 2014.
The film, directed by Jagan Shakti, is presented by Fox Star Studios, and produced by Cape of Good Films, Hope Productions, and Fox Star Studios.
Mission Mangal is set to release in theatres on 15 August 2019.
