Samantha Akkineni’s latest Telugu release Oh! Baby (2019), an official remake of South Korean comedy Miss Granny (2014), has struck gold at the box office with opening weekend worldwide gross of Rs17 crore, its makers announced on Monday, 8 June.

In order to celebrate the blockbuster opening, the makers released a special poster. The film, which also stars Naga Shaurya, Rao Ramesh and Rajendra Prasad in crucial roles, has been directed by Nandini Reddy.

Sharing the poster on her Twitter page, Samantha wrote: “What a weekend. Thank you for all the Baby love. We are doing back flips.”

In the US, the film has breached into half million club and is on its way to enter the million dollar club soon.

Oh! Baby is the story of a 70-year-old woman Baby (played by veteran actor Lakshmi) who wakes up one day to find herself in the body of a 24-year-old Swati (played by Samantha).

The film marks the second collaboration of Samantha and Nandini after Jabardast (2013), which tanked at the box-office.

Samantha holds Oh! Baby very close to her heart. In a pre-release interview with the newspaper The Hindu, she opened up about the project and explained how she’s overcome her inhibitions when it comes to her work lately.

“We all come with insecurities. I came with a splash and didn’t get time to find my feet. The industry had its own norms for beauty — a heroine had to be tall, fair and have North Indian looks. It took me a long time to fit in. I had to battle my own demons to become the best version of me,” she said.

Samantha will be next seen in the Telugu remake of 96 (2018) which also stars Sharwanand.
