Anjan Dutt is all set to embark on a new franchise with Saratchandra Chattopadhyay’s most popular novel Srikanta with Greentouch Productions. The first film, titled Srikanto, will feature Suprobhat Das as the protagonist.

Das, who was previously seen in Dutt’s Aami Ashbo Phirey (2018) and Finally Bhalobasha (2019), will feature in a lead role in a film for the first time. In an interview with the Bengali daily, Bartaman Patrika, the director said, “I have been working on this project for the last three years. This is my dream project. I have conceptualised a modern version of Srikanta and will present it in four films.”

He also added that one of the reasons to cast Das in the lead role in the new franchise was because he is still a fresh face.

Das, on the other hand, was quite overwhelmed to get the opportunity. “I was not in a state of reacting anyway when I first received the offer. It was hard for me to internalise that he could choose an amateur actor like me. However, now the feeling has sunk in,” he said.

The young actor is currently shooting for Dutt’s upcoming musical Saheber Cutlet and is planning to prepare himself for Srikanta in recluse, after the shooting gets over. However, Dutt said, “Suprabhat is an experienced actor and I don’t really see the need of doing a workshop with him.”

Srikanta will also have four leading female characters - Annada, Rajlakshmi, Kamallata and Abhaya. The director has Parno Mittra, Payel Sarkar, Priyanka Sarkar and Gargee Roy Chowdhury in mind for the roles but hasn't confirmed yet.
