Director Anubhav Sinha's Mulk (2018) received critical acclaim last year but didn't fare very well at the box office. The filmmaker is now receiving his share of success this year with Article 15. The Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer is on its way to becoming a hit.

Article 15 review: Restrained Ayushmann Khurrana drives Anubhav Sinha's brilliant, layered film

After a decent first weekend, earning close to Rs20 crore, Article 15 did steady business in its first week. The film made Rs3 crore yesterday (4 July) as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. This takes its overall domestic total to a decent Rs34 crore nett.

As per our trade sources, Article 15 was made on a budget of around Rs28 crore. The film has surpassed that figure in the first week itself. This gives it a good chance of proving to be a winner at the box office.

If this happens, it would continue Khurrana's successful stint at the box office. The actor was part of two big hits last year — Badhaai Ho (2018) and Andhadhun (2018). The interesting bit is that all these three films — Badhaai Ho, Andhadhun and now Article 15 — belong to very different genres. Badhaai Ho was a light family drama, Andhadhun a dark thriller and Article 15 is an investigative drama based on real-life incidents.

Meanwhile, the Shahid Kapoor-starrer Kabir Singh has had a remarkable second week where it earned Rs76.75 crore nett. The grand total of the film now stands at a whopping Rs210 crore.

The good thing for both films is that no big Hindi film was released today (5 July). The only competition they have is from Hollywood with Spider-Man: Away From Home.
