Family Of Thakurganj trailer: Yet another underworld film based in Hindi heartland

Over the last decade or so, mainstream Hindi cinema has been witnessing regular doses of gangster films, that are often based in a small town in north India. Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012), the Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster trilogy, Zila Ghaziabad (2013) and Bullet Raja (2013) are some of the names that come to mind.
Director Manoj K Jha’s Family Of Thakurganj is one such addition in the gangster genre.
The title of the film is self explanatory. It is about a family in Thakurganj that is divided in two camps. One of the two brothers (Jimmy Sheirgill) believes in lawlessness and walks on the footsteps of his father (Saurabh Shukla). The younger brother, played by Nandish Singh, is a law abiding citizen. For a change, the brothers here are on the opposite sides of an ideology and are not fighting over money and power.
It is difficult to make out the story of the film from the trailer. This is more because the promo lacks a proper flow and is too loud. There are more gunshots in the two minute trailer than one generally hears in an entire film. Also, seeing Mahie Gill and Sheirgill together instantly reminds you of the Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster series.
While the setting looks similar to the other films in the genre, one hopes this one offers something new on the table.
Family Of Thakurganj is all set to be released on 19 July.
