Hichki wins Best Film award at Giffoni Film Festival in Italy

After successful releases at home and in India, Hichki (2018) is continuing its journey at international film festival. It recently won the Gryphon Award for the Best Film at the 49th Giffoni Film Festival in Italy. What was special about the honour was that award was decided upon by over 1,500 children.

Directed by Siddarth P Malhotra, Hichki was screened in a special category called Elements +10 where jurors were between the ages of 10 to 12. The Indian film competed with seven features from Germany, China, Sweden, Australia and the Netherlands.

Producer Maneesh Sharma said in a statement, “Hichki is truly a universal film that has resonated with audiences across the world. The fact that children have voted Hichki as the Best Film of the festival just goes to show that the film’s story of overcoming odds and finding your own success is relevant to cinema lovers even in this age group. We at YRF [Yash Raj Films] are absolutely thrilled that kids have celebrated the message of Hichki in Italy.”

Rani Mukerji played Naina Mathur, a determined new teacher at St Notker's School who attempts to connect and inspire her students. Mathur suffers from Tourette syndrome but does not let her condition affect her position.

The film released in India on 23 March 2018.
