Actor, director, producer and writer Durba Sahay is ready with her latest film, Aavartan. Starring the renowned Kathak dancer, Shovana Narayan, the film’s stellar cast includes Sushma Seth and Sunit Razdan.

The film is the story of an eminent Kathak maestro, whose disciple becomes a star overnight and chooses to move a step ahead from her guru by adding new dimensions to the form. This leads the guru to become insecure. While delving into this situation, the film also explores the tradition and cycle of the guru-shishya (teacher-pupil) relationship — how it begins, evolves, ends and again a new cycle begins with the next generation.

Talking about the choice of the cast, Sahay said, “The moment I narrated the idea and story to Shovana Ji, she not just agreed to do the film but at the same time she radiated a lot of trust and good vibes towards me and instantly I was confident that everything is going to turn out perfect.”

Speaking of her experience working with the veterans, sahay added, “Sushma Ji is playing the guru of Kathak maestro Bhawna Saraswati in the film. I needed a senior and graceful actor to play the role and who could have been better than Sushma Ji to play Guru Gayatri Prabha Devi. Working with them was a lot of fun at the same time, there was lot of learning for me because they both carry ocean of experience with them.”
