Actor Aditya Pancholi was granted interim relief by a Mumbai court on Tuesday, 2 July. The actor had filed for anticipatory bail at the Dindoshi sessions court in connection with the rape case filed against him by a 36-year old actress.

According to a PTI report, the actor's lawyer, Prashant Patil, argued that the complainant had lied in her report. "Her date of birth was different in her complaint and in her passport, and such discrepancies show 'her intention to lie'," he claimed.

The actress alleges that the crime took place 15 years ago. The PTI report added that Pancholi's lawyer claimed that the complainant had only filed a case against the actor following an unfavourable decision against her by the district court in a defamation suit filed by Pancholi against her.

The police, meanwhile, had opposed the plea for anticipatory bail filed by the actor.

Judge HB Gaikwad has adjourned the hearing to 19 July. He also granted Pancholi interim relief. This means that if the actor is arrested during this period, he must be released on an interim bail until further orders on executing a personal bond of Rs30,000, the judge said.

The actor has maintained that he has been 'falsely implicated' in the case.
