Not doing Dear Comrade Hindi remake, says Vijay Deverakonda

Actor Vijay Deverakonda has clarified that he won’t star in the Hindi remake of his latest release Dear Comrade, in which he plays a student leader.

Deverakonda confirmed the news in a post-release media interaction in Hyderabad for the film. He was asked if he has signed a film with Karan Johar, who has acquired the remake rights of Dear Comrade.

“We are happy that Karan Johar bought the remake rights even before the film’s release. It was very encouraging and it gave us a lot of confidence. Ever since the news about the remake came out, people have been asking if I’ll be doing the project. I won’t be part of the remake but I wish the team all the luck,” Deverakonda said.

Dear Comrade, despite garnering mixed response from critics and audiences alike, went on to rake in big numbers at the box-office with opening day gross of around Rs18 crore.

In its opening weekend, trade pundits believe that the film will gross around Rs30 crore. Produced by Mythri Movie Makers and Big Ben Cinema, the film is the directorial debut of Bharat Kamma, an erstwhile assistant of Chandrasekhar Yeleti.

Dear Comrade also stars Rashmika Mandanna as the leading lady. While she plays a state-level cricket player, Deverakonda essays the role of a student leader with serious anger issues.

Both Mandanna and Deverakonda, who had previously worked together in Geetha Govindam, were praised unanimously for their performances in Dear Comrade, which released in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu.
