While one of the stills features Rajinikanth in khaki, walking with an iron rod in hand and a fiery look on his face; the other features him wearing a light blue coat with rolled-up sleeves.
Darbar features Rajinikanth in the role of a police officer for the first time in 25 years. His last cop role was in the 1992 dud Pandian. Darbar also stars Nayanthara, Suniel Shetty, Nivetha Thomas, Yogi Babu and Prateik Babbar.
Tipped to be an investigative thriller, the entire film is being shot in Mumbai. The film was originally supposed to be bankrolled by Sun Pictures, but the company backed out after the recent Sarkar (2018) controversy.
Following the exit of Sun Pictures, Lyca Productions, makers of Rajinikanth's 2.0 (2018), has taken over the reins of the project and is said to have mounted the project on a lavish scale. This would be the third outing for Lyca Productions with Rajinikanth after Kaala (2018) and 2.0.
The film has music by Anirudh Ravichander while A Sreekar Prasad, winner of eight National awards, has been roped in for the editing. Lensman Santosh Sivan has cranked the camera. Santosh is also reuniting with Rajinikanth after two decades.
