Chola is the second Indian film, after Gitanjali Rao's animated feature Bombay Rose, to head to Venice this year.
Sanal Kumar's film, S Durga (2018), had gone on to win the Hivos Tiger at the Rotterdam International Film Festival (2017).
The 76th Venice International Film Festival is set to begin on 28 August and will conclude on 7 September 2019.
