The first song from Batla House, ‘Rula Diya’ is a sorrowful track which follows the breakup of the marriage of Sanjay (John Abraham) and Nandita (Mrunal Thakur).
After the events of Operation Batla House, John’s character Sanjay is experiencing what is likely post traumatic stress disorder and has trouble readjusting to normal life again. It leads to tensions between him and his wife. The couple aren’t able to go back to the way they were before.
The song, composed by Ankit Tiwari, follows the despair the couple feels as they aren’t able to communicate with one another. Dhvani Bhanusali joins Tiwari on the harmony for ‘Rula Diya’. Prince Dubey’s lyrics highlights the discord the characters feel while still wanting to stay together.
Tiwari builds the harmony well on ‘Rula Diya’, even incorporating the lesser-heard shehnai in the song as a memory of the couple’s wedding and fonder times.
Batla House, directed by Nikkhil Advani, is due to be released on 15 August, Independence Day.
