Gotro song 'Mashima Hitler': Provides context but not worth listenning to

Gotro is slated to be released in August, on the occasion of Janmashtami.

'Mashima Hitler' song from Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy's Gotro has been composed by Anindya Chatterjee and rendered by Babul Supriyo. Meant to be an entertaining song, having similarities with the fast and entertaining numbers from the 1990s, 'Mashima Hitler' is quite one-dimensional in terms of its tunes and rhythm structure.

Written by Chatterjee, the song is dedicated to Mukti Debi (Anushua Majumdar) the protagonist of the film and the head of a family. She provides shelter to people out of compassion in her Gobinda Dham but is extremely strict, earning the moniker Mashima Hitler. She has become the prime reason of frustration for settlers at her home, who crave for a bit of indulgence in their lives. The song features Biswanath Basu dancing in the streets to the utter irritation of Debi. He basically points out all the rules and regulations laid out by her with humour.

Basu is undoubtedly the most appealing aspect of the song. His careless dance moves make it easier to listen to the song, which is neither melodious nor funky.

In the visuals, Nigel Akkara Vicky, who plays Tariq Ali, one of the settlers at Gobinda Dham, is seen to be in the most miserable state, in his attempts to abide by all the rules. The song is a kind of revolt against all of Mashima’s restrictions. In that context, the not-so melodious song and the street dance of Basu seem totally apt.
