Panther trailer lacks sensitivity and humanistic approach

The film is a fictionalised account of the Mumbai blast. The trailer doesn’t really give away the feeling that the issue has been dealt with any sensitivity.

The trailer of Anshuman Pratyush and team’s upcoming film Panther is out. Featuring Jeetendra Madnani aka Jeet and Shraddha Das in the lead, Panther is based on the deadly terrorist attacks in Mumbai in 2008. Jeet plays under-cover agent Panther, who foils the conspiracies of the terrorists and is on a mission to eliminate terrorism from the country entirely.

The trailer suggests quite an amateurish take on the blast, only for the sake of projecting Jeet’s character as the saviour of India. He is described as no less than a superhero. Panther is also seen to be in a frenzy of killing enemies as he is "mad about his country".

The portrayal of the terrorists and their plans to threaten the mankind lack depth of research and realism. The action sequences are high-pitched, meant for instigating the audience rather than making them feel the pulse of the terror with a realistic viewpoint. In the present time, when the idea of nationalism has turned into a sensational collective feeling, from the trailer it appears that the film hardly has a humanistic approach.

Though it is said in the trailer, that terrorism has no religion, the black and white portrayal of all the terrorists, doesn’t really aid the statement. The film is filled with action sequences, glorifying Jeet’s presence on screen throughout.

Panther is slated to be release on 9 August.
