Karan Johar buys Hindi rights to Vijay Deverakonda's Dear Comrade

Ahead of its release this week, Bharat Kamma's Dear Comrade (2019), starring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, has been picked by filmmaker Karan Johar for a Hindi remake. Johar's Dharma Productions has bought the rights for the unreleased Telugu film.

The filmmaker caught a sneak preview of Bharat Kamma's directorial debut and decided upon its Hindi remake.

This will be the third time that a Deverakonda film is being picked to be adapted for Hindi cinema after Pelli Choopulu (2016) and Arjun Reddy (2017). They were remade into Mitron (2018) and Kabir Singh (2019) respectively. Furthermore, the success of Kabir Singh (2019), starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, has probably prompted Johar to pick up Dear Comrade, which is in the same vein as the Sandeep Reddy Vanga film.

Deverakonda plays Bobby, a headstrong, fiery student leader who falls for Lily (Rashmika Mandanna), a cricketer. His short-temper causes him to get into fights easily and leads to an estrangement between him and Lily. Dear Comrade is due to be released on 26 July.
