It's official! Shonali Bose's The Sky Is Pink will premiere as a gala presentation at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The drama, starring Priyanka Chopra, Zaira Wasim, Farhan Akhtar and Rohit Saraf, is based on the life of Aisha Chaudhary, who was born with an immuno-deficiency disorder and died at age 19.

The film, which is in Hindi and English, features Wasim as Aisha, who "narrates her parents’ poignant, affecting, and inspiring romance, in this unexpectedly humorous love story". Wasim recently made headlines as she announced she was quitting films because she felt her faith was being "threatened".

Lead actress Priyanka Chopra, who is also co-producer on the film, has previously presented Pahuna: The Little Visitors (2017) at the festival in 2017. Her films What’s Your Raashee? (2009) and Mary Kom (2014) had also been screened at the festival, out of competition and the actress had been a jury member on the festival's digital short film section in 2016.

The film, co-produced by Roy Kapur Films and RSVP Films, is due to be released in India on 11 October.

The Canadian film festival will be held from 5-15 September.
