With the song ‘Ashwini Ye Na’ from Hemant Dhome’s Ye Re Ye Re Paisa 2, Marathi cinema too has forayed into remaking of old classics in new films. The original song is from Sachin Pilgaonkar’s Gammat Jammat (1987) and was filmed on Ashok Saraf and Charusheela Sable. Kishore Kumar and Anuradha Paudwal lent their voices to the song. Composer duo Troy-Arif have revamped the song for Dhome's latest.
During the music launch of Ye Re Ye Re Paisa 2, the composers said that they had plainly refused to touch the old song initially. “We said, no we won’t do a remake of this track. We just said we won’t do it. But he [Dhome] said, at least listen to the script. As soon as he told us about the whole story, we got to know that it made sense in the situation to put this track. It was definitely a requirement,” said Troy.
But the task wasn’t easy for them since they don’t come from a Marathi background. He said, “We started off but couldn’t crack it. We don’t come from the background of listening to a lot of Marathi music. Now we have to listen; we don’t have an option [laughs].”
The song has been picturized on Aniket Vishwasrao, Sanjay Narvekar, Mrinmayee Godbole, Prasad Oak, Anand Ingle and Smita Gondkar.
Troy gave credited singer Avadhoot Gupte, who has sung the remake, for helping them overcome the challenge. “It was a huge challenge as it’s a legendary song. Hats off to Avadhoot Gupte. He sung it so brilliantly. He gave three different takes and asked us to choose whichever suits the song. We chose the one which was the closest to Kishore da and the one that had retained the simplicity,” he said.
But even after the song was shot, Troy-Arif weren’t completely satisfied. “When we shot the track and we came back, we said we want to revamp it after a year now. So now we have revamped the track,” Troy added.
Ye Re Ye Re Paisa 2 will be released on 9 August.
