Andhadhun, Gully Boy, Bulbul Can Sing, Super Deluxe win nominations at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne


The tenth edition of the festival will be held from 8-17 August.

Andhadhun (2018), Gully Boy (2019), Super Deluxe (2019) and Bulbul Can Sing have picked up multiple nominations for the upcoming tenth edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

The noir thriller Andhadhun, musical Gully Boy, family comedy Badhaai Ho (2018), family drama Sui Dhaaga: Made In India, and Tamil neo-noir film Super Deluxe are all competing in the Best Film category.

Meanwhile Praveen Morchhale’s Widow of Silence, Rima Das’s Bulbul Can Sing, Ridham Janve’s The Gold-Laden Sheep And The Sacred Mountain, Dar Gai’s Namdev Bhau: In Search Of Silence, Devashish Makhija’s Bhonsle, Priya Ramasubban's Chuskit, and Jahnu Barua's Bhoga Khirikee are all nominated in the Best Indie Film category.

The Best Actor category is made up of Ayushmann Khurrana for Andhadhun, Ranveer Singh for Gully Boy, Vijay Sethupathi for Super Deluxe, Manoj Bajpayee for Bhonsle, Amitabh Bachchan for Badla, Vicky Kaushal for Uri: The Surgical Strike, and Namdev Gaurav for Namdev Bhau. The inclusion of the lesser known actor Gaurav is a welcome surprise.

Andhadhun’s Tabu, Badhaai Ho’s Neena Gupta, Gully Boy’s Alia Bhatt, Ahaa Re’s Rituparna Sengupta, Chuskit’s Jigmeet Dewa Lhamo, and Bhoga Khirkee’s Zerifa Wahid go up against each other in the Best Actress category.

Sriram Raghavan for Andhadhun, Zoya Akhtar for Gully Boy, Thiagarajan Kumararaja for Super Deluxe, Rima Das for Bulbul Can Sing, Praveen Morchhale for Widow of Silence, Jhanu Barua for Bhoga Khirkee and Abhishek Chaubey for Sonchirya will compete for Best Director trophy.

Australian filmmaker Fred Schepisi, Australian editor Jill Bilcock, Australian actress Victoria Hill, actor Vince Colosimo and Indian film critic Rajeev Masand are part of the jury for the awards. Schepisi is a Golden Globe winner for the 2005 miniseries Empire Falls, while Bilcock, an Academy Award-nominee, is known for her collaboration with filmmaker Baz Luhrmann.
 
Hill was most recently in Paul Schrader's First Reformed (2017) while Colosimo was last seen in Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby (2013) and is a regular on Australian television.
