With the Marathi film Baba (2019), Sanjay Dutt has ventured into production. It also marks the Marathi film debut of well-known character artiste Deepak Dobriyal.

During the trailer launch of Baba, Sanjay Dutt spoke about his banner's aim. "We are thinking of making content-driven films," he said. "But we won't think of only content. We will also make commercial films and entertainers. Of course, content is important, but it's also important for it to be entertaining."

Dutt himself is known in the film industry by the nickname 'Baba'. But he claimed that Baba being the title of his first production is sheer coincidence. "The director [Raj Gupta] is responsible for that," Dutt said. "I was pleasantly surprised that it's titled Baba."

Speaking about his role in Hindi cinema, Dutt said he is looking to play character roles at this stage of his career. "I know I can no longer dance around trees with girls. But I will play characters like the ones played by Mel Gibson and Denzel Washington [in Hollywood]," he said.

There has been talk for some years now about the third film in Rajkumar Hirani's Munna Bhai series. The first film was released in 2003 and the second in 2006. Asked if the third film would ever happen, Sanjay Dutt said, "I am praying to god that it happens soon. But this question should be asked to Mr Raju Hirani. He will be able to speak on it. I am also waiting for it, just like you all."

Baba is due to be released on 2 August.
