Filmmakers Madhur Bhandarkar, Shaji Karun, Karan Johar, Rahul Rawail and producer Siddharth Roy Kapur have been selected as core committee members for this year’s edition of International Film Festival of India [IFFI]. The festival will be held in Goa.
This is the 50th edition of the festival and organizers are planning a grand celebration. They will also be commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
As per an official note by the organizers, India’s Information and Broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar will be overseeing all the preparations himself. He held a press conference on 14 July in Panaji, Goa where he said, “IFFI is the pride of the nation. Being its golden jubilee year, this year’s festival will be special.” He also launched the poster of this year’s festival.
“While Russia is expected to be the international partner for the golden jubilee celebration, there are plans to hold a retrospective of an eminent international celebrity,” said the note. Plus, in order to promote the festival, the organizers will be holding road shows in seven Indian cities.
This year, students from the Film and Television Institute of India [FTII] and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute [SRFTI] will be specially invited to attend IFFI.
The festival will be held from 20 to 28 November.
