The ground is the location for the iconic knock of 175 by Kapil Dev that helped India move into contention for the 1983 World Cup.

Actress Deepika Padukone has joined Ranveer Singh on the sets of '83, and at the right moment. The actress's latest pictures from the sets of Kabir Khan's film reveal that she is enjoying her first movie outing with husband, Singh. But it is the location of the shoot that carries much more importance.
Mini Mathur shared a picture of Padukone at the grounds of Royal Tunbridge Wells in England. While the picture is a sweet one, with little to do with the movie, its location reveals much more.
The picture has been taken at the Royal Tunbridge Wells ground, the venue for one of the greatest knocks in One-Day cricket by Kapil Dev.
Playing against Zimbabwe on 18 June 1983, India fell to 9 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, when Kapil Dev walked in. With India's back against the wall, the captain hit a whirlwind 175 runs in just 138 balls.
The innings, often called one of the best in World Cup cricket, helped India to a total of 266, and eventually, put them in contention for the cup.
Khan's film on India's first cricket World Cup triumph might see Ranveer Singh take on the iconic position of Kapil Dev and recreate the match on screen. Incidentally, the match was never telecast or recorded on television since the official broadcasters, BBC, were on strike for that particular day.
Deepika Padukone is playing Kapil Dev's wife, Romi Dev, in the film. It will also mark her first film with Singh, post their high profile wedding.
'83 is set to be released in theatres on 10 April 2020.
